Looking back when I was fourteen and thought I knew it all. And was I ever so wrong. All this craziness started after my father had paid a friend to mow our lawn. After he had finished and gone I noticed the grass was a little on the yellow side. I had remembered a bag of stuff (fertilizer) on the side of the garage. It was a large bag and had been there for some time as this was a rental property and we had been there for two years. So I fertilized the twenty by twenty five foot back yard and dumped the rest which was about a third on my brothers five by fifteen foot garden. After dumping the last of it on the garden I looked around me in horror as everything was coated white. I had fertilized tenfold and hadn't even payed attention.

Now fearing for my life and knowing my back end was destined for the beating of my life I had to do something now to get rid of the evidence. The sudden thought of watering the area was the only thing I could think of to save my bacon. And water it I did for it took forty five minutes to dissolve all this white stuff. And man was I proud of myself for I had not been caught and this was all behind me now.

Two days later my mom proclaimed a miracle had happened in our back yard. The grass could not have been any greener and it was eight inches tall and all in the matter of two days. As for the garden my brother was so proud of his golden green thumb for his six to seven inch flowers had grown to sixteen inches,and the pumpkin and squash were three times the size. And I didn't say a thing as they called the neighbors and friends to come and see the miraculous spectacle that had occurred.

To this day I have never told anyone about the fertilizer incident. And I am glad I got my mom to believe in miracles and my brother to believe he was a gifted gardener.
